Are You Listening?

“To listen is to continually give up all expectation and to give our attention, completely and freshly, to what is before us, not really knowing what we will hear or what that will mean. In the practice of our days, to listen is to lean in, softly, with a willingness to be changed by what we hear.” Mark Nepo

Listening to our “Whisper Within” is one of the most important things we can do.

Pause with me for a moment…remember what it felt like to be a child who looked at life with such wonder and amazement, who questioned everything. So lets ask…WHY? Why is it so important to listen to that whisper?

PHYSICALLY: Your body is in constant communication with you at all times. Every moment of every day your body is sending you signals…like thirst, hunger, fatigue or pain. If the body feels it is not being listened to it begins to speak a bit louder.

SPIRITUALLY: We all question why we are here… what is my purpose? Carl Jung suggests that when a person enters the world they represent a question to which their life has to provide an answer. Your whisper within may help guide you.

EMOTIONALLY: What is your emotional whisper? Is it one of joy or sadness, of anger or peace? What is the story behind that emotion?

MENTALLY: This is where we can get in our own way… OVERTHINKING…..as we are writing this blog we are getting stuck…what are the right words to use? How do we phrase this so it is clear…no that doesn’t sound right. What we mean is…so, you see what I mean? How often do we all do this in our daily lives, over~ ride our whisper within?

So, how do we listen? How do we turn off all the voices outside of ourselves, the voice of doubt, the voice of insecurity, the voice of guilt, the voice of fear. Rather than dismissing or ignoring these voices, do you greet them, invite them in, ask them what message they have for you? As you begin to recognise these voices as familiar old friends, friends that have been with you for… how long? Take them one by one and ask why…why are you here? Are you real? When did we first meet? Was it when I was 5 and was scolded by my teacher or when I was 16 and felt rejected by my first love? Pull up a chair, tell me your story~
